END OF AN ERA AS DAVE AND GARY HANG UP THE SPANNERS

After more than 40 years of supporting their local community, likely lads Dave Fairclough and Gary Marshall are hanging up the spanners, putting away the socket sets and switching off the ignition for the last time at their very successful Automech business.

The good friends and business colleagues have been repairing, servicing and MOTing vehicles for motorists in the Irlam and Cadishead and surrounding areas from their Automech vehicle Centre on Liverpool Road in Cadishead since 1984.

But now it is time to take things a little slower and move over to the middle lane as they have sadly decided to call it a day on their business.

Dave Fairclough started Automech in 1981 at 98, Liverpool Road in Cadishead. Gary Marshall joined the partnership in 1983, with Automech moving to their current ‘state of the art’ premises on Liverpool Road in Cadishead during 1984.

Dave and Gary have always worked to their own personal high standards on the day-to-day running and excellent customer service they offered; this is reflected in the large number of loyal customers that returned year after year for their servicing and repairs plus MOT testing. And they would like to say a massive thank you to each and every single one of those customers that have supported them over the considerable years.

Some 40 years ago the Cadishead premises were opened by none other than former Formula 1 legend, the ‘flying Scotsman’ David Coulthard. With both Dave and Gary then heavily involved in motor racing. Indeed, Dave is the current series director and organiser for the popular Ford ST Race series with racing taking place around the country including at the likes of Silverstone and Oulton Park.

Dave said, “It has been quite sad, but you must move on and neither myself nor Gary are getting any younger. We have loved every minute of our 40 plus years at Automech”. Gary added, “We really want to say a big thank you not only to all our customers and friends but also to the people we have worked with and have supported and helped us along the way and who we will always call good friends.”

The lads ‘clocked out’ for the last time this week and the Automech site in Cadishead will now be transformed into an Asda local store.

Good luck to the future and enjoy taking things a little easier Dave and Gary you will be missed by all in the Irlam and Cadishead Community.
