Emergency services are currently on scene this morning (Wednesday 3rd July), at a stretch of the River Irwell close to the Lowry Hotel on Dantzic Street.
A search boat was seen to have been deployed into the water and a cordon was been established at both ends of the Trinity footbridge which spans the river between Salford and Manchester.
Police have confirmed that they are in the process of recovering a body of a man from the water.
A statement from Greater Manchester Police, reads:
“Officers were called to a report of a body in the water at Dantzic Street in Manchester city centre just after 10.30am today (Wednesday 3 July).
Emergency services attended and a man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Enquiries remain on-going.”
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue, said:
“I can confirm we were called to Parsonage in Manchester city centre around 10.45am to an incident alongside GMP and NWAS and we remain in attendance.”
