At approximately 10:10 am on Saturday, June 15, 2024, police were alerted to a distressing incident involving an elderly woman on Moss Bank Way in Bolton. The 89-year-old woman was found lying on the road, having sustained serious injuries.

Responding swiftly, officers were the first to arrive at the scene, where they provided immediate support to the injured woman. She was subsequently taken to the hospital, where she is currently in stable condition, receiving treatment for fractures to her wrist and knee.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman was crossing Moss Bank Way at the junction with Hill View Road when she was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle, described as a silver or grey SUV, was turning left out of Hill View Road onto Moss Bank Way when it collided with her. The impact knocked the woman to the ground, and alarmingly, the driver failed to stop, continuing westbound on Moss Bank Way towards Moss Bank Park.

Chief Inspector Michael Parker of the Roads Policing Unit provided an update on the investigation:

“We are currently investigating a road traffic collision involving a large vehicle that struck an elderly woman while she was crossing the road near the shops in Astley Bridge. The scene has now been cleared, and officers are diligently reviewing CCTV footage and speaking with witnesses to identify the driver who failed to stop after the incident.”

Chief Inspector Parker made a direct appeal to the driver:

“We urge the driver to come forward. Additionally, if anyone has any information, dashcam, or mobile phone footage that could assist in our investigation, please contact us by calling 101 and quoting log 1049 of 15/06/2024. Information can also be shared via our LiveChat function on our website: www.gmp.police.uk or by calling 101. In an emergency, always dial 999.”

For those who prefer to remain anonymous, information can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.

This incident highlights the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to exercise caution and responsibility, especially in areas with pedestrian traffic. The community is urged to come together to assist in identifying the driver and ensuring justice for the injured woman.
