Following weeks of tireless campaigning by the parties and their candidates, the Eccles ward by-election results have been declared.
Labour candidate, Lisa Muir, has been declared the winner in the 2024 Eccles By-election.
The turnout for the election, held on Thursday 31 October 2024, was just 16.46% per cent with 1872 votes cast and 16 ballot papers were rejected. Statistically, turnout for by-elections is lower than for local and general elections.
The votes were cast as follows (in alphabetical order):
Sally GRIFFITHS Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition – 76
Sara LAING Green Party – 261
Ian Alexander MCKINLAY Liberal Democrats – For A Fair Deal- 142
Lisa MUIR Labour Party- 951
Daniel Andrew WHITEHOUSE Conservative Party Candidate- 426
This by-election follows the resignation of Labour councillor, Sharmina August.
