The sounds and beats from the ‘back streets’ of Brazil echoed around Irlam and Cadishead Academy recently, as members of staff were treated to a fantastic ‘hand on’ samba drumming workshop courtesy of Cadishead Public Band.
More than 30 members of staff from the Station Road Secondary School, joined in a fun samba drumming workshop hosted by Cadishead Band percussionist and professional drummer and drum tutor Jonny Baxter and band member Dave Dee.
Helen Colquitt, Head of Expressive Arts at the Academy said:
“Dave Dee from Cadishead Band organized a fantastic percussion wellbeing workshop for staff at Irlam and Cadishead Academy. Jonny Baxter’s expertise and inspirational teaching brought rhythm to the team, culminating in a full Samba band performance.
On behalf of the Academy and all those that took part I would like to extend heartfelt thanks for this opportunity, emphasizing the importance of the arts as a means of self-expression.
We are excited to maintain and strengthen our partnership with Cadishead Public Band in the upcoming academic year.”
The after-school samba session was a taster of what Cadishead Band can offer students at the school and the forerunner of a project and collaboration between the Band and the Academy aimed at getting more young people in the school interested and actively learning to play an instrument and going forward becoming part of the ever-popular Cadishead Public Band.
Dave Dee, added:
“Cadishead Band are looking forward to working with students and staff at the Academy to encourage the young people to have a go at learning and how to play brass band instruments. This is a fantastic opportunity not only for the Academy but also for Cadishead Band who need new and younger players to keep the Band performing around the community and beyond for many generations to come.”
