Bent Cue Competition Rises From The Ashes?

Yesterday saw the triumphant of the Eccles Bent Cue Competion at Patricroft Conservative Club with over 70 people taking part and a crowded room all eager to join in.

The completion started over 50 years in The Lamb Hotel being the brainchild of Joe Mcdonald and was played each Boxing Day becoming a much loved fixture of Eccles life, sadly when the snooker table was removed the tradition sadly finished.

However a chance conversation with Karen Blamire, Joe’s daughter got us interested in how we could revive the tradition, a video interview with Joe Greatbanks and Richard Jones in Patricroft Conservative Club showed us there was still great interest in the Bent Cue Competion so we plugged it and asked people to attend this year’s event and they certainly did making it a wonderful success.

Both men and women including a toddler tried their hand to mixed success, believe me it isn’t easy to take a straight shot, I had a go and scored ..one.

The eventual winner was Matty Robson with a break of fourteen who scooped the pot.. £72 and well done to him.

Hopefully following the success of this splendid afternoon out the competition will rise from the proverbial ashes and this unique part of Eccles tradition will carry on for more many years more. Congratulations to everybody who organised the Bent Cue Competition and all the lovely people who entered it was a marvellous afternoon out and long may it continue.
