The warm weather has caused the metalwork to expand and it is now well stuck in the up position.

Update: Thanks to the power of Salford Jesus and a bit of jiggery pokery from the fire services the bridge is now down, I repeat the bridge is now down.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area around the Salford Western Gateway Bridge which runs alongside the M60 Barton fly-over bridge in Eccles.

The warm weather has brought it to a grinding halt after it was raised to allow a ship to pass down the canal.

Traffic is queuing and it is unknown when it will be back in its down position so if you are heading home from work this evening then please take another route.

If you are stuck in the traffic then we are sending thoughts and prayers.

Roll a window down and try and keep cool and calm.
