A prison officer at the Sodexo ran HMP Forrest Bank in Agecroft has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to smuggle mobile phones into the class B privately ran prison in a pair of boots.
The officer was arrested shortly after starting an early morning 6:30am shift on Friday (4th October), on inspection it is understood that the illegal contraband was discovered hidden in the officers boots.
Prison Director Matt Spencer, said:
“We can confirm that a member of staff was arrested following vigilant work from our team.
“As this is part of an ongoing police investigation, we cannot comment further.”
A full investigation is now underway.
Meanwhile, the prison has had a number of issues with it's staff, in July two male staff members were arrested on suspicion of smuggling in prohibited items and in November last year (2018) two former workers were sent to prison themselves after they were found guilty of up to £100,000 worth of electrical equipment from the prison which they later sold online shopping website eBay.
