Shortly before 8:10 am, police received information that a body had been found on a patch of wooded area close to Eccles Old Road.
A murder investigation has now been launched after police say the body was found wrapped in what appears to be plastic.
The age and gender of the deceased has as yet not been disclosed by the police.
We have been told that the discovery of the body was made by a small group of children on their way to school, they are said to have immediately informed the emergency services.
GMP has now issued a statement:
Officers are currently on the scene and have cordoned off the area to aid police forensics teams to investigate.
The entrance to Buile Hill Park adjacent to the scene was cordoned off and cars were being diverted along Chaseley Road from the east bound route along Eccles Old Road.
Parents were still be able to pick their children up from neighbouring Buile Hill Visual Arts College but were being asked that where possible to use Manor Road for picking them up, although they are warned to expect extra traffic and congestion in the area at the end of the school day, around 2:30pm. The road has since reopened to traffic.
The road had been closed and diversions were put in place but have since been lifted.
Police asked for people to avoid the area but have since reopened the road after erecting a metal barrier around the entrance to the scene.
