DRIVER FLEES THE WRECKAGE AFTER A SUSPECT STOLEN CAR COLLIDES WITH ST JAMES CHURCH ON ECCLES OLD ROAD
Police were called after a suspected stolen Vauxhall Astra was involved in a collision with a wall at St James Church (Hope) in the early hours of this morning (Friday 20th March).
The collision happened at the junction of Eccles Old Road with Lancaster Road, both of which were temporarily closed this morning.
Police say that the occupants of the vehicle somehow managed to miraculously flee the scene before they arrived.
The collision was so strong that it sent a safety bollard flying through the air which embedded into one of the churches stained glass windows and the wreckage of the vehicle somersaulting over the opposite side of the wall.
For awhile the police helicopter hovered over head as they searched for those involved.
SalfordOnline member Victoria Blair posted a video of the scene onto the group.
Enquiries are still on going into the incident.
