KEEPER CROCOMBE SIGNS FOR SALFORD
New Zealand born goalkeeper Max Crocombe becomes the sixth new signing of the summer as Salford City continue to build for the new season

Twenty-three year old goalkeeper Max Crocombe was born in Auckland, New Zealand then moved to the U.K. when still a youngster.

Max's football career included early spells with MK Dons and Luton Town but aged sixteen he signed for Buckingham Town. Despite his tender years he went on to make 33 first team appearances for the United Counties League Division One side.

Oxford United were sufficiently impressed to enrol Max as a scholar and in 2012 he signed his first professional contract at the Kassam Stadium. During the following League Two season he made four appearances, three of which ended in clean sheets.

During the 2013-2014 campaign Max made two League Cup appearances for the U's, including a 1-1 draw with Premier League West Bromwich Albion, saving two penalties in the post extra-time shoot-out.

During his four seasons with Oxford Max had loan spells with Nuneaton Town, Barnet and Southport - during the last of these he played in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying round game at Moor Lane, ending up on the losing side as Salford City booked a place in the competition proper for the first time in their history. Southport's battle against relegation during the 2015-2016 campaign was a successful one and Max was a key player for the side that retained their National League status.

Max left the Kassam Stadium during the summer of 2016 and moved north to sign for Carlisle United. He made four first team appearances for the Cumbrians last season and has now agreed to join Salford City on 1st July after his contract with Carlisle expires.

A New Zealand international at U20 and U23 levels 6ft 4.5 inch Max has also been included in the senior squad and may well join the list of Salford City players to win full caps for their country.

We'd like to offer a warm welcome to Max and trust that his stay with us will be a long, happy and successful one - we have an interview with him here.
