On 3 July, a group of pupils from 12 specialist educational settings across Greater Manchester and Cheshire came together at the yearly Together Trust’s Music and Performing Arts Festival at the Lowry Theatre.
The remarkable event, hosted by the leading disability charity in the North West, the Together Trust, was a musical spectacle in which students with disabilities and special health needs shared their passion for contemporary music and performed for their loved ones and the general public.
The concert was a delightful blend of popular hits like “Three Lions” by Frank Skinner, “Dancing On My Own” by Calum Scott and more, as well as the sign choir’s beautiful rendition of “Make Your Own Kind Of Music” by Paloma Faith. The students also rocked the stage with dance performances to hits like “Spice Up Your Life” by Spice Girls, “Circus” by Britney Spears, “Who Are You” by Jessie J and beyond.
One of the pupils representing Inscape House School for autistic children and young people, shares:
“I loved it, it was amazing. I’ve never been on a stage before, and I was excited. I got to use the Boomwhackers, which is my favourite. My mum was there, she nearly cried!”
The Together Trust charity’s children and young people from Ashcroft School, Bridge College, and Inscape House School shared the stage with their peers from Ansar Projects School, Brentwood School and Community College, Elms Bank School, Piper Hill High School, Green Fold Special School, Newlands School, Rowan Tree Primary School, Springwood School, and Prospect House School.
Jacqui Swainson, Teacher at Inscape House School, said:
“The students had a fantastic afternoon, both watching the performance and performing. It was a great opportunity for them to be able to perform on such a wonderful stage. I am so proud of all of their achievements and look forward to starting work on next year’s performance!.”
This event was a wonderful opportunity for these young talents to shine and we hope everyone enjoyed the performances.
