On Saturday 21st June we presented a talk about The Lost Pubs Of Ordsall at Salford Lads Club at the request of Leslie Holmes, the project manager there.
Delighted to see so many people of all ages attend the show in the Concert Room and listen to the stories of the Lost Pubs.
They listened to the Anti German Riots in May 1915 following the sinking of The Lusitania off the coast of Ireland with a loss of 1,200 lives and how that impacted on Ordsall and in particular the landlady of The Royal pub on Phoebe Street when rioters trashed the pub and all because of her surname, Pressler.
Queen Elizabeth 11 opening the Dockers Club in 1961 hard to believe but true, The Fox on Regent Road with furniture screwed to the floor and the fate the befell Prince Peter Lobengula following his visit in 1903.
With there being some 85 pubs in the Ordsall area we had to limit the number of pubs we discussed to 32 of them with period photos and ancedotes.
Members of the audience joined in with their memories and the years were rolled away just reminding us what we have lost over the years.
The show was part of the, Whose Art Whose Culture and Salford City Council.
