A new community hub is set to open in the Brookhouse Estate in Salford.
Salford City Council, Salford City Academy, Barton Moss School and Brookhouse Community Centre have joined forces to open the community hub once a week.
The official opening will take place on Wednesday 27 November between 4pm and 5pm at Salford City Academy.
The hub will offer a warm space for people to gather and socialise with activities for people of all ages. Experts from health and wellbeing services will attend to help people with information, screenings and support.
Councillor Tracy Kelly, Deputy City Mayor and Lead Member for Housing and Anti-Poverty at Salford City Council, said: “Myself and local councillors John Walsh and Mishal Saeed have been campaigning for a community hub at Brookhouse, as there had been an absence of such a service in our area. Residents had raised these issues at our ward walkabouts, councillor surgeries and while we had been out canvassing with the City Mayor.
“This multi-agency approach will make a massive difference to the experience of residents who will welcome these much needed services.”
Councillor Mishal Saeed, Executive Support Member for Social Care and Mental Health at Salford City Council, added: “Our aim is to bring the community together and improve the lives of our residents living on the Brookhouse Estate and this is a positive move forwards. The health improvement service at the council has played a proactive role in moving this work forwards.
“Creating a vibrant community atmosphere people can have the support they need is vital as we head towards the cold, dark winter where may people feel even more isolated than usual
.
“Professional health experts will attend the hub and informally chat to people and offer their services. I’ll be visiting too and hope to see local people down there for a chat and a brew.”
