Police have launched an investigation following the tragic discovery of a 40-year-old woman and an 8-year-old girl found dead at a property on South Radford Street in Salford. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 10:30 a.m. today amid reports of a concern for welfare.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP), along with personnel from the North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, responded to the incident. Sadly, both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Superintendent Simon Moyles of GMP’s Salford district addressed the media, stating:

“A woman and young girl were both tragically found dead, and we are working hard as a team to establish what happened here this morning. While we are not actively looking for anyone else in relation to this investigation, I understand the news of their deaths and the large police and emergency services presence at the address will most likely cause some concern to residents and those further afield in Greater Manchester.”

He reassured the community that the incident appears to be isolated and does not pose a wider threat. A cordon has been set up around the property as police continue their investigation. Moyles added that additional officers have been deployed to the area to offer support and to address any concerns from residents.

Police have confirmed that the next of kin have been informed, and specialist officers are providing support to the grieving family.

Salford City Council also expressed condolences, with a spokesperson stating:

“We are aware of the terribly sad news this morning, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of those who have tragically lost their lives. We’re working closely with GMP and assisting them with their ongoing investigation. Our teams will be supporting local residents and council staff who have no doubt been greatly affected by the events today.”

Police are appealing to the public for any information that may help in the investigation. Residents or anyone with details related to the incident are urged to contact GMP on 101, quoting log 998 of 23/09/2024.

The community remains in shock as they await further details regarding the tragic loss of life on South Radford Street.
