Suspect Charged with Attempted Murder in Life-Altering Salford Park Attack

A man has been charged with attempted murder following a brutal attack 18 months ago which left a man with life altering injuries.

On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, emergency services were called to Clarendon Park in Salford following reports of concern for the welfare of a man. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim, later identified as John, severely beaten and unconscious. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he has remained ever since, suffering from life-altering injuries that have left him in a vegetative state.

Today, Friday, August 9, 2024, Greater Manchester Police charged Shannon Meaney, born on August 13, 1990, with attempted murder in connection with the attack. Meaney, who is of no fixed abode has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on September 3, 2024.

The victim’s daughter, Lily, has been vocal about the incident, launching a campaign on social media to seek justice for her father. She describes how the brutal assault has devastated their family, leaving John unable to speak, walk, or function independently, altering his life forever​.
