A 23-year-old man is currently in custody having been arrested on suspicion of the rape of a teenage girl In Irlam.
Police were called to the scene close to a footpath leading to the old course of the River Irwell at around 4am this morning (Sunday 28th July).
The girl is said to be being supported by specialist officers.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said:
“At 4am this morning, we received reports that a teenage girl had been raped in a woodland area near the River Irwell Old Course in Irlam.
“She is being supported by specially trained officers. A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape. He remains in police custody for questioning.”
