Together Housing Group and Rowlinson Construction have submitted plans for a new residential development on the former Woolpack pub site on Belvedere Road, Pendleton. The project aims to construct a six-storey building featuring 48 affordable apartments, which includes 19 one-bedroom and 29 two-bedroom units.

The architectural design by MCAU is part of a broader effort to revitalize the area, which has seen other significant projects such as the redevelopment of the former Buzz Bingo site and plans for new high-rise towers nearby. The proposal seeks to address the increasing demand for affordable housing in Salford, aligning with the city’s urban development strategy.

This development is part of a larger trend of regeneration in Pendleton, contributing to the community’s growth and providing much-needed affordable living spaces. The initiative reflects a commitment to creating sustainable and inclusive housing solutions that cater to the diverse needs of Salford’s residents.

Sisters, Gene Houghton and Carole Bridge organised a petition in the hopes of it being reopened as a community pub in 2009, this lead to designs being drawn up by Salford University students in 2013 for what was hoped would be a redevelopment and hopes it would become a community hub. The plans were given the backing of former Salford MP Hazel Blears but ultimately the plan was dropped and the pub was later demolished having fallen into a state of disrepair.

For those interested in further details or following the progress of the application, the planning application can be found on Salford City Council’s portal under the reference PA/2024/0917.
