In a thrilling encounter, the Swinton Lions mounted a spectacular second-half comeback to defeat the Widnes Vikings 19-12. The Lions, who were trailing by 12-4 at halftime, showcased resilience and determination to overturn the deficit and claim a vital win.

Widnes initially took control of the match, with Jack Owens scoring an early try, which he then converted to give the Vikings a 6-0 lead. Despite the Lions’ efforts, Widnes extended their advantage when Danny Craven crossed the line, with Owens once again adding the extras to make it 12-0.

Swinton’s response came just before the interval, as Mitch Cox managed to break through Widnes’ defense to score, reducing the deficit to 12-4 and giving the Lions a glimmer of hope going into the second half.

The Lions emerged with renewed vigor after the break. Their persistence paid off when Richard Lepori powered over for a try, bringing Swinton closer at 12-8. Chris Hankinson then added two crucial points with a penalty goal, narrowing the gap further to 12-10.

As the clock ticked down, Swinton’s determination was evident. Jack Hansen delivered a pivotal moment for the Lions, scoring a try that put them ahead for the first time in the match at 14-12. Hankinson’s successful conversion extended the lead to 16-12.

With momentum firmly on their side, the Lions sealed the victory with a drop goal from Hansen, making the final score 19-12. This dramatic comeback highlights the team’s fighting spirit and determination to secure crucial wins as they progress through the season.
