There are reports that the former U.S. President Donald Trump has been injured during a failed assassination attempt which took place whilst he was stood addressing the crowds at a televised election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Multiple shots (up to 10) could be heard as Trump visibly grabbed at the side of his face before being shielded by secret service agents standing at his side, people began screaming as agents pushed Trump to the ground.
The presidential candidate appeared to have blood spattered across his face from a wound to the upper part of his right ear as he definitely pumped his fist up and arose from the ground with the crowd shouting USA, USA, USA.
Swarmed by agents, he was lead away following confirmation it was safe to do so.
The secret service has confirmed that the former president is safe, although the extent of any injuries have not been given.
It is also believed that three people were shot during the incident, all of whom were placed on stretchers and taken from the scene.
An eyewitness has told NBC news that a male spectator was caught in the crossfire and was shot in the head, dying instantly at the scene, whilst a woman was shot in the forearm and hand and was treated by paramedics, a third person was also shot and is said to be in a serious condition.
Butler Police have confirmed that the gunman has been ‘neutralised’ by members of the secret service.
It is believed that the shooter was stationed at an elevated position upon a flat roofed building outside of the rally are and used a high powered sniper rifle to fire shots at the former president as he stood addressing the crowds from the podium.
The White House has confirmed that his political opponent, President Biden, has been informed of the ongoing situation.
The crowd at the rally has now been dispersed.
