The Ammies have officially announced the signing of former Stoke City defender Tom Edwards on a two-year deal.
Edwards, 25, began his career in the youth ranks at Stoke City and made over 50 senior appearances for The Potters in both the Premier League and the Championship. In 2020, the right-back made a significant career move, joining the MLS’s New York Red Bulls on loan.
Reflecting on his MLS experience, Edwards said:
“I’ve been around League One and the Championship, but also the MLS where I played for two seasons and that was a great experience for me, and I felt that that was probably the main one which allowed me to grow as a player. It was an amazing experience, obviously all the travelling that you get to do and all the stadiums you get to play in, and it was quite a young team I was joining, it made me grow as a person, as I had to mature a bit more having played in the English leagues, it was very beneficial for me.”
After returning to the UK in 2022, Edwards had loan spells with Barnsley in League One and Huddersfield Town in the Championship. Now, he has signed permanently with The Ammies this summer.
Edwards expressed his enthusiasm about joining Salford City:
“I want to be very successful as an individual, but also as a team. I know how much ambition this club has and I want to move forward whilst I am here. I am honestly delighted to sign; I couldn’t wait to do it, and I am so happy I have come up as you obviously get a feel for the environment and I am loving my time here already, so I cannot wait to get going with the boys.”
Welcome to The Peninsula Stadium, Tom! The move is subject to EFL and FA approval and ratification.
