A salford school teacher has no case to answer after being cleared of any wrongdoing by police following serious allegations which upon investigation were proven to have no substance.

At 8:30am on Wednesday 19th June, police arrested a 31-year-old man at the premises of Light Oaks Primary School in Salford, on suspicion of having made communications with a child.

Following an in-depth enquiries, police have dropped the investigation.

The headteacher at the school has announced that the year-6 teacher will be returning to the school in the coming weeks with a meeting planned with parents of pupils in both the current and next years classes.

The school has unfairly been subjected to criticism for what some have stated is a lack of information being made public, however due to the nature of the police investigation they were unable to comment as they were bound and limited by the investigation process. The school has remained in liaison with both the police and the Local Education Authority throughout and has been taking their advice on how to deal with the matter.

We will not be naming the teacher, although we are aware the school has done so and he has been named elsewhere on social media.

Headteacher, Zandra Wilkinson, said – via a newsletter to parents:

“(The Teacher) will now return to school during the next few weeks, in what will be a difficult but much-needed transition back to his position as a year-6 teacher.

“To that end and to further reassure parents, we will be holding a meeting for parents of his current year-6 class and the year-5 class who will be moving up to him in September, with further details to follow.

“I would be grateful if parents would address the teachers return with their own children in whichever way they feel comfortable, so that erroneous messages and unjust comments which some of them may have heard do not come into school.”

Mrs Wilkinson went on to thank parents for their support:

“Can I thank you once again for all your supportive comments and patience over the past very stressful couple of weeks; your faith and trust in is as a community is always very much appreciated.”
