Winton Armed Forces Day - 2024
Winton Armed Forces Day - 2024

Sadly we were unable to make the parade/march from Dukes Drive Park at the start of Winton Armed Forces Day, due to being caught up in heavy traffic following an accident on the M60 whilst returning from a visit to Oldham, but wild horses would not stop us making it to the wonderful celebrations which took place at Winton Park this morning, which continue until 4pm this evening (29th June).

As always the crowds were in attendance alongside local councillors, this years ceremonial Mayor Tanya Birch and members of our armed service both young and old.

The rain held off for the most part and didn’t dampen the spirits and much fun was enjoyed by all with beverages and cake being served by the local Women Institute and Mr Whippy the Icecream man doing a roaring trade.

Salford Community Leisure were in attendance with their climbing wall, which attracted the attention of many young dare devils without fear of heights (Unlike myself), plus if I had tried to climb it then I suspect it would have fallen over.

Alongside our armed forces were representatives from our emergency services who allowed children to climb aboard a fire engine.

All in all it was a wonderful day and it honestly just gets better and better each year as Salford continues its tradition of showing support to the brave men and women of our armed services and emergency services.

We can not wait to see what next year brings.

Oh and if anyone snapped any photos of the parade, we would be more than happy to include them here and acknowledge credit.
