As criminals slept across the Salford district, officers from Greater Manchester Police were up and out early disrupting their activities as part of Operation AVRO which took place across the City this morning (Thursday 20 June 2024).
Chief Inspector Simon Ashcroft, of our Salford district, said:
“Ongoing throughout the day you will see this continuing, so please don’t be alarmed, please feel free to approach the officers, engage with them, have that conversation – they are here to engage with the community, they are your local officers and they want to speak to you.”
“Operation AVRO is in full swing across the city of Salford. You will see increased patrols in the area, high visibility operations, a significant shoplifting and retail theft operation targeting theft from stores, identifying and bringing offenders of those types of crimes to justice.”
Operation AVRO is a force wide initiative that delivers extra resources and specialist officers to a different district within Greater Manchester each month and launched in Salford in October 2021.Since then, it has travelled around the force with the operation targeting crimes and concerns that members of the public in that district have told GMP give them the most concern.
Police say their activity will continue into the afternoon, you can follow the action by following their live blog here – Operation AVRO | Greater Manchester Police (gmp.police.uk)
