Salford City’s Director of Football, Ryan Giggs, has outlined his aspirations for the upcoming pre-season, with attention shifting towards the club’s July friendlies. As the long off-season begins, Giggs emphasized the importance of maintaining fitness and preparation.

Giggs, said:

“With about 14 weeks between the last game and the start of the new season, it’s a substantial break.

“The players need to keep themselves active and fit. They had a couple of weeks to wind down, but now it’s about gradually increasing their workload as we approach pre-season.”

Giggs highlighted the rigorous training regimen planned by head coach Karl Robinson, mentioning the demanding beach runs scheduled for their training camp in Ireland.

He, added:

“Karl’s pre-season won’t be easy. The lads will need to return in excellent shape to handle the intensity.”

On the squad front, Giggs expressed his excitement about Dan Chesters, whose loan move was made permanent earlier this month.

Reflecting on Chesters’ performance last season, Giggs said:

“We didn’t see the best of Dan because he wasn’t playing in his preferred position. He’s a wide man who can also play as a number 10, but he was often deployed at wing-back and right-back. Despite this, he did a commendable job and his positive attitude is invaluable in the dressing room. I believe he’ll have an outstanding season given his attributes.”

Additionally, Giggs spoke about the acquisition of Cole Stockton, who recently agreed to terms with the club.

He, continued:

“Cole is more than just a goalscorer; his overall play is impressive. We’ve brought in a player who offers something different and can replicate the goal-scoring prowess that Matt provided for us over the past three years.

“Goalscorers like Cole are rare, and we’re thrilled to have secured him. He has proven his capabilities at higher levels and at this level as well. As long as we create chances for him, he will find the back of the net.”

As Salford City gears up for a new season, the focus on fitness, strategic acquisitions, and player development underlines the club’s ambitions for success at The Peninsula Stadium.
