Manchester music fans are in for a treat as Salford-based singer Natalie Jane, known for her powerhouse performances in local venues, breaks out into the original music scene. Performing under the name Psydaa (pron. “cider”), she is set to release her flagship single, ‘Heard a Lotta Things’, on Friday, 5th July, available on all major music platforms.
Natalie Jane grew up in Nelson, Lancashire, against the folklorish backdrop of Pendle Hill, before moving to the big city for her degree at the University of Salford in 2016. Her final year media dissertation consisted of a three-song EP and music videos, sealing her love for songwriting. The overwhelming reaction from peers sparked the realisation that her hobby could be something bigger, igniting her passion for pursuing music professionally.
However, life soon paused with the Covid-19 lockdowns. During this time, Natalie moved to Swinton and, despite the challenges to live music posed by the pandemic, continued to hone her craft indoors. Shortly after, she set up a business performing covers around Manchester and Lancashire venues, refining her powerful vocals and natural stage presence to live audiences. Recently celebrating her 50th gig, the time has come to take the next leap into original music.
Released under the artist name Psydaa, her upcoming single, ‘Heard a Lotta Things’, is a captivating blend of pop, rock, and soul. Seamlessly blending emotive vocals with rich layers of keys, organ, and electric guitar — the latter played by Leeds guitarist Rob McNicholas — the track delivers a powerful punch. Psydaa asks, “Have you ever had a partner tell you their ex was crazy? ‘Heard a Lotta Things’ is about the guilt of laughing with them, only to realise they’ve sent you slightly mad, too.” With its biting lyrics and a powerful kick, ‘Heard a Lotta Things’ serves as a prickly olive branch to your ex’s exes.
This song follows the launch of Psydaa’s first single, ‘Fake Friend’, released on Blue Monday this January, which was well received by local music media:
- “I defy anyone to not dance along to ‘Fake Friend’. The track does everything it’s supposed to do; from the second that heavy bass drum hits, our heads were bobbing along. Her voice is absolutely brilliant, reminiscent of Atlanta soul singers despite her Manchester roots. We’re really impressed and hope to hear a lot more from her!” — From The Hive
- “A great slice of pop. ‘Fake Friend’ makes you want to tap your foot and dance. She may be young, but we predict a bright future in music.” — Salford City Radio
To celebrate the release of ‘Heard a Lotta Things’, Psydaa will be hosting a special launch event. Fans and supporters are encouraged to keep an eye on Instagram for updates on the event details: https://www.instagram.com/psydaa/
